If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
Where?

Ayew will play when fit. You don't spend $20 mill on a bench warmer.
My guess is he'll play off Carrol.. The old number 10 role. If that doesn't work I'd then try Payet in that role and put Ayew on the wing.

Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
I agree, I worry that we are clinging to the hope the Ayew is the answer to our striker problem because suddenly without playing he has become a world beater a bit like Carroll does when he is on the sidelines.

Ayew clearly is a quality player in his natural position but the concern is that we play him out of position and with the level of expectation being piled on him that if he doesn't deliver he will get criticised rather than the club for recruiting a wide attacker to be the lone forward.

I am not trying to be negative but realistic had we signed a recognised striker to play the lone role I would totally understand the anticipation but Ayew isn't that anymore than say Theo Walcott would have been, I personally think it is the usual spin from the club to cover their failings to say he is now.

The answer for me for that lone striker is a fit and motivated Sakho but somehow that seems something that we are unlikely to see and considering we knew that was the case I am amazed we did not recruit a similar player this summer rather than the mix of forwards we did.

Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
He is not a lone striker that leads the line or at least he was not at Swansea or even Marsaille? My dream is he plays alongside a fit and motivated Sakho eventually with a midfield of Payet, Obiang, Fernandes and Lanzini. Noble may get back in but he is 30 soon and he may have to become like Leon Brittan at Swansea and play more of a cameo role eventually. We need to ship out the dross and get another classy, dominating centre back and a quality right back. If Sakho and Carroll continue to snap in half (likely) we still need a class striker.

100 - 150 million for 3 players of proven quality and very high wages to get them to come to a struggling Premiership team. Sullivan and Gold are not in that league of welath though so dreams of Europe and top 4 are just that.

Better than zaza so obvious answer is yes. Zaza should just go back where he came from, don't want lazy players at our club

Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
As questioned on the another post, what are everyone basing their views that Ayew is a £20m striker to lead the line when most of his career he has been a wide attacking player and offers little of the physical attributes that if is usually required of a lone striker?

It seems the worse things get the better Ayew is so unless we have a dramatic change in how we play then I don't see him being any more effective than Valencia as a lone striker someone Swansea were prepared to replace him with.

''Absolute class player that we are missing badly''

You can't miss what you never had. And yes he would start, I don't know where you've been all your life but West Ham don't have 20 mil quid substitutes.

Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
Fuck me, Ayew couldn't do any worse. I'd rather have 4 eyed Eddie the Eagle Edwards up front or raspberry ripple Michael Schumacher. Both would me more effective than our current fit strikers.

What a fucking stupid thread.
I mean, why would we start our record signing, who was bought as a striker, when we're so short of a goalscorer today we started without one.

Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
He would have been perfect to lead the line today, with 'tonio on the right and Tore back in Turkey where he fucking belongs.

And of course he fucking starts. As I've said before, WHU spending 20 million on a proven premiership player to sit on the bench. FFS, have a word.

Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
Well he's better than Tore so he knocks him out. I'd try him up too with Antonio back on the wing

Anywhere up front.

Absolute class player that we are missing badly.

Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
Ayew up front, Payet and Antonio behind and wide, Lanzini plus two proper defensive minded midfielders behind them. Nortveidt, Noble, Kouyate and Obiang all have until January to prove they can be one of those two - and the jury is out on all of them so far this season. Fernandes deserves a chance to stake a claim too.

Considering how shite our front men have been it's an terrible waste of 20 million if we don't

Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
100% he would start. 20 million quid player on the bench for WHU ?

TBH, if you asked any OM fan they would say the same as Infidel's mate. Never met a single one who didn't love him, and bear in mind he was there for years.

Although he's not an out and out striker (or at least has not often been used as one), I reckon he'd do a great job for us up front. Better than fucking Zaza or Calleri has so far anyway, with twice the workrate.

jack flash 4:49 Sat Sep 24
Re: If Ayew was fit? Would he start?
He would certainly start since there are majority of our team capable of putting in decent performances are simply not doing so & the rest are simply not capable of doing so

Tore, Zaza & Nordtveit are rubbish

Calleri might come good but not worth a place at the moment

The team should obviously revolve around our best players so Lanzini, Payet, Antonio & Ayew (once fit) will need to somehow be accommodated

Without wishing to state the bleeding obvious, our current problems stem from a lack of tackling in midfield which has made our back 4 look like rabbits in the headlights

Perhaps Fernandes can do the job?
